Urban Target Outreach Project in America (UTOPIA)

Urban and Ethnic Churches need staff help. Young adults are looking to see if urban or cross-cultural ministry is for them. That formula has provided 25 urban missionaries in the last 7 years for churches in the NY Metro area.

UTOPIA’s purpose statement is: to strengthen and expand the gospel of Jesus Christ by calling and training young men and women to minister in local churches as urban missionaries for one year or more.

They have served with youth, leading worship, coaching basketball, leading children’s ministry, teaching ESL and lots more.

There are training sessions, mentoring by local church leaders, and lots of opportunities to grow and experience cross cultural ministry.

Many of the missionaries have stayed past their mission year commitment, continuing to serve at the church in an even greater capacity.

We hope UTOPIA continues to grow and expand to serve other urban/intercultural areas in the EFCA.
