Steven J. Musser, PhD
District Superintendent
Dr. Musser is the District Superintendent of the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. This district is comprised of approximately 130 churches in a six-state area running from New York to Virginia. Among other duties and responsibilities, he leads the district's Church Development Team which, in addition to himself, includes several full-time Associate Superintendents. The role of this team is to support the district's churches and to implement the district's vision: "Becoming Churches without Walls."
Before taking on his district responsibilities, Steve served as Senior Associate Pastor at the West Shore Evangelical Free Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. where his duties included preaching, overseeing a large pastoral staff and conducting pastoral counseling. Steve also led the church's leadership development initiative and oversaw the development of the church's comprehensive strategic plan. Before coming on staff at West Shore, Steve also served as chairman of the board of elders, fellowship group leader and small group leader.
In addition to being a popular preacher and church conference speaker, Steve has consulted with numerous churches, denominations and a number of para-church organizations. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Theological College of Zimbabwe.
In the past, Steve has served as Professor of Management, as Chair of the Faculty and as Director of the Center for Leadership Development at Messiah College. He has authored numerous publications on leadership and management and co-founded Musser & Orke Associates a consulting firm whose clients have included denominations, Fortune 500 companies, state and federal governments, and the U.S. Navy.
He was ordained by the Evangelical Free Church of America and holds a bachelor's degree from Albright College and a Masters and PhD from Temple University. His seminary training was done at Evangelical School of Theology. Steve and his wife Georgette have two married daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca. Eric A. Orke
Associate Superintendent - Southern Region
Eric is the Associate Superintendent of the Southern Region of the Eastern District. Before joining the district staff, Eric was the Pastor of Adult Ministries at Carlisle Evangelical Free Church in Carlisle, PA. He currently serves on the Leadership Commission of the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Management, co-owned his own business and worked for a Fortune 500 company. Eric has a Master of Divinity from Talbot School of Theology and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Eric and his wife Sandy have four grown children. Roy Larsen
Associate Superintendent - Urban/Intercultural
Roy is the Associate Superintendent for Urban/Intercultural Ministries in the Eastern District. Roy grew up in Queens, New York. He graduated from Wheaton College in 1975 and Bethel Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity degree with an urban ministry emphasis in 1980. He received a Physicians Assistant License from State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York in 1982. From 1985-1997 Roy and his wife Judy served as missionaries to Zaire with the Evangelical Free Church Mission. He joined the district staff in 1998. Peter Johnson
Associate Superintendent - Northern Region
Peter Johnson accepted Christ as his Savior in 1969 through Word of Life Ministries as a high school student in Keene, NH.
After graduating from The King’s College in 1977 with a degree in Religion and Philosophy,
he joined Africa Inland Mission as a staff artist at the mission press and teacher at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya.
In 1984 Peter received a Master’s degree in Cross-cultural Communication (Missiology) from Wheaton College and married Karen (Elliott), and the couple returned to Africa serving as church planting missionaries among the Luo people in Western Kenya and then in AIM’s U.S. office as an administrator overseeing all the missionaries on the field.
In addition to his mission experience, Peter has served as an associate pastor in New Hampshire for seven years, and at Montvale Evangelical Free Church in Montvale, New Jersey for two. For the last nine years he has been the senior pastor of Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cresskill, New Jersey.
Peter and Karen have four children, Benjamin, a sophomore at Wheaton College; Jessica, a junior in high school; Michael, an eighth grader; and Bethany, who is in fourth grade. Send an e-mail to: pjohnson@edaefca.org
Sue Wollenhaupt
Church Development Ministry Associate
Sue Wollenhaupt has been serving in the district office since 2001. She is a part of the Church Development Team where her focus is to support our district churches through communications, information management and oversight of the office in Orefield, PA.
Sue has been involved in children, youth and women's ministries. She enjoys being a member of the worship team at Faith EFC, Allentown, PA, where her husband, Greg, serves as the Pastor of Congregational Life. The couple have two adult children; David, who lives in Rochester, NY and Amy, who lives with her husband, Daniel, in Lomita, CA. Becky Swavely
District Secretary
Becky Swavely is an active member of Faith EFC in Allentown, where she had been Admin. Asst. of Children & Family Ministries for the past several years.
Becky and her husband Tim met at Word of Life Bible Institute and were married in 1991. They have been involved in children and youth ministries together for a number of years. They have two school-aged children, Emily and Jonathan. Send an e-mail to: becky@edaefca.org
