Church Planting

This is an exciting time to be involved with church planting in the Eastern District. Since the establishment of the Eastern District EFCA Foundation Fund in September 2009, three church plants have been approved to receive funding and several others are being considered for future approval. It is wonderful to have the resources that the Foundation provides to be able to encourage our church planters and core groups and to see them move forward with the vision that God has given them for reaching many for Christ in their neighborhoods. God has blessed us!

Foundation Churches

Crossroads Church in Wilmington, Delaware is pastored by Rev. Bill Heider. They had an exciting launch in early October, 2009 and are seeing new faces every week and noticing that when people return they don't come alone; they bring others with them! The church is intentional about reaching out and ministering to the community. They held a Christmas Party where many of the children who attended had never heard the Christmas story. They held their Christmas Eve service at a homeless shelter in Wilmington and celebrated advent and worshipped with over 120 homeless men. God is working in them and through them to minister to their community.

Salem Global Link in Staten Island, New York has been strategically placed by our Lord to reach a large African community in that area. Rev. Kingsley Asamoah and his church meet in a public school for Sunday School and Worship. It is exciting to see how God is preparing the way by opening doors into their community. For example, a Thanksgiving dinner for just under 200 local residents was served in the school with volunteers from Salem Global Link, Salem EFC and the school. Many contacts were made, dozens of coats and blankets were given away and community partnerships were built.

A Better Life Fellowship Church, Baltimore, Maryland (Brooklyn Area). Pastored by Rev. Charles Brooks, their goal is to be a church that is strong on discipleship, leadership development and outreach. Their vision statement is "Advancing the Kingdom through Coaching Leaders, Planting Churches and Building Lives." The core group is gifted and has a number of leaders. As the Lord allows, their goal is to plant a second church in the Pimlico area of Baltimore.

Lighthouse EFC in Rotterdam, NY has a strong desire to attract people to Jesus Christ by showing His love and compassion in meaningful ways. Rev. Bob Mundell is leading this outward-focused church. They have an active food pantry ministry, a history of successful summer concerts, a burden to minister to the poor in Schenectady and a drive to partner with community churches to expand God's kingdom.

It is our desire, as God enables and blesses, to initiate the launch of five new church planting efforts in 2009 and five new church planting efforts in 2010. Our vision is that half of these plants be urban and/or intercultural. The district provides each of the plants with $40,000 the first year and $20,000 the second.
