Opportunities for Church Planting in the Eastern District
While we are open to hearing where God may be calling you to plant and will work with you to discover the feasibility of that vision, there are a few opportunities that we see on the horizon. These include:
Pennsylvania
- There is an immediate need for a bilingual (English and Spanish) church planter to work under the leadership of John Davis, the pastor at Grace Church of Philly in Philadelphia, PA. The new church is located in Feltonville, an ethnically and economically diverse inner-city neighborhood of Philadelphia, at an old Baptist church whose members have agreed to close and restart as a Free Church plant. This church has a small congregation, an existing church building and a parsonage that the planter can live in. However, beyond the use of the parsonage, the planter will need to raise additional support.
- There is need of a bilingual (English and Spanish) church planter to work under the leadership of Hugo Concha, the pastor at Iglesia el Faro in Lebanon PA. This will be a plant that has already started as a Bible study at the Hollywood Racetrack in Grantville, PA among track personnel and their families. There is a contract with the elementary school in Grantville to use their facility. There is no financial resource available so the planter will need to raise support for this ministry.
- The Hispanic Mission under the leadership of Lorenzo Meson is looking for bilingual (Hispanic/English) planters who are looking to be mentored in an internship and placed in church planting partnerships with existing churches in PA.
New York
- We are exploring the possibility of putting together a multicultural team of planters to plant in Manhattan, NY. Creative funding will be needed for this plant because of the high cost of living in New York City.
There are occasional openings in the Eastern District's CityServe ministry led by David Gehret for 1- to 2-year internships in urban churches to gain experience in the urban context. This is a great training ground for someone desiring to plant in an urban setting.
