Looking for the 40,000 in Wilmington DE
Submitted by Pastor Bill Heider
Pennies on the street. We pass them every day without much thought. Do they have value? Yes. Valuable enough to make the effort to stop and pick them up? Not usually. People can be like pennies as we pass them so often that it’s very easy to ignore them. Are they valuable? Certainly - each one! They all bear the image of God, have eternal destinies and are people whom Jesus loves. This is the heart of church planting. It’s the heart to be willing to stop what we’re doing and do what ever it takes to share Christ’s love with lost people.
A team has assembled to plant a new church in Wilmington, DE. Within 3 miles from our target area there are over 70,000 people, 40,000 of whom have no connection with ANY faith community. We want to reach them. Specifically, we want to reach the growing number of young adults in this community, and we want to plant a reproducing, church planting church. This is the vision of Crossroads Church.
Our core values are community, worship, and redemptive action. It's about living life together, experiencing God’s grace and finding ways to carry love to a broken world.
Imagine if the 40,000 people with no church connection were 40,000 pennies - the weight of the pennies would be 273.37 lbs! Lifting them would be no easy task. But I’m sure that if any of us came upon a pile of pennies like that we would find some way to carry it away, what ever effort it required.
We appreciate your prayer for us. We have started meeting weekly to grow our core team. September 7th is the date we plan to launch public worship. There is much to do, and God has given us an amazing team committed to do it, what ever effort is required.
Bill Heider is the Lead Pastor at our newest church plant, Crossroads Church, in Wilmington, Delaware.
